Teaching in Ireland

Today we taught in an integrated Irish school. We were split up into different classrooms and I was able to work in a kindergarten/first grade classroom. This experience opened my eyes and allowed me to experience the integrated Irish education. The school was absolutely amazing and the teachers were fantastic. Based off my experience today I prefer the integrated Irish education over American education. The teacher I worked with had a good relationship with her students. She would speak and the students would do as she said. This school had a special flow to it, which made it even more interesting to observe. So far this was my favorite experience in Ireland.

Day 2: Belfast

We started the day by traveling to the Titanic museum. We were able to see where the ship was built and how they constructed it. After traveling around Belfast we were able to see the divide of the city between Catholics and Protestants. Later we had the opportunity to meet with Young Parliament of the UK. This allows boys and girls 11 year of age to 18 years of age to be elected, develop a campaign, and follow parliament . These boys and girls speak to parliament about issues going on in the lives of young people. We were able to gain information on their educational experience, their campaigns, and their culture. The day ended with our first pub experience :)

We arrived!

Traveling throughout the night and not getting sleep was definitely worth the trip to Dublin. Had the chance to explore the town, visit the Guiness Factory, Jameson Distillery, and now we are staying in Belfast.

One day until departure

Tomorrow I will be departing for Ireland. This blog will show my experiences as I travel for the next twelve days with other Millersville University students and our professor. I will be learning about women and the educational system of Ireland. This trip will allow me to work in different types of school settings and learn about their cultures. I hope you will enjoy this blog and the experiences that I will engage in.
